Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some answers to frequently asked questions. Please get in touch if you would like to know more before booking.

How many sessions will I need?

What do you want to get out of our time together, and how many sessions can you commit to? Having an idea will help us to put together a schedule. If you can commit to two sessions, I’m likely to recommend we spend that time exploring the factors contributing to your pain and strategies you can continue to use on your own in the future. If you can commit to four or six, that will allow time for manual therapy, alongside some learning and movement.

Between two and six sessions about a week apart is a typical number of sessions for most people. After that, you may choose to go for longer between sessions or come when you feel you need or want to. I don’t recommend having chiropractic treatment more than once a week. More frequently than this is just not necessary.

Will I have to undress for manual therapy sessions?

I use my hands to feel the bones and muscles. To facilitate this, please wear loose comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. Jeans are not suitable – leggings, joggers, or light shorts are perfect. I may ask you to remove your top or t-shirt when I come to adjust your spine, but only if you are comfortable doing so.

How does the manual therapy treatment work?

From what we know about pain neuroscience, and in a very small nutshell, it seems manual therapy treatments send positive messages to the brain, which calms the nervous system, leading to relaxation and pain relief.

Learning about how pain works helps us understand how treatments for pain work. For sure it is complex and there is a lot of ongoing research aimed at answering this very question.

Can I claim on my health insurance policy?

Most health insurance policies include chiropractic treatment in their list of benefits. You may be able to claim the cost of your treatment. Please check with your provider for details.

Please note, I do not invoice insurance companies. Payment is due at the time of the appointment and I provide a receipt for you to claim back the cost of your treatment from your provider.

I am not registered with Bupa or AXA PPP.

Will I need an X-ray?

I do not take X-rays. Very occasionally, I refer clients for an X-ray or MRI, only if needed. I can refer you to an alternative practitioner or consultant when required, to ensure you are getting the most appropriate care.

Are you registered with a professional registration body?

Yes, I am registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC).

I am also a member of the McTimoney Chiropractic Association (MCA).

Do I have to pay upfront for a course of treatment?

No! I never charge for treatment you have not received. It’s pay-as-you-go! The exception to this is your first appointment, which is payable in advance at the time of booking.

Otherwise, unless you are paying by cash or card at the time of your appointment, the fees are due in advance by card payment or bank transfer. You will receive your invoice by email with instructions on how to pay. There is also an option to pay by card when booking online.

How much are the fees?

The Initial Consultation fee is £95, paid in advance. I allow slightly longer for this first appointment, which includes your first treatment, and we may spend time on a telephone or video call prior to your coming to the clinic.

The standard appointment fee is £75 and all appointments last 45 minutes to an hour.

Payment is due at the time of your appointment, or you may choose to pay by card during the online booking process. I accept cash, card payments, and direct bank transfers.
